excuses excuses

craft your words,
tip the words off your tongue like you're told,
listen like you're supposed to,
watch your feet as you stray towards cliffs,
watch your tongue as you use it for a sword,
watch your fingers as you wrap them 'round weapons,
watch your eyes as they fall from your focus,
watch your legs as they run from the enemy,
watch your head as its thoughts defy,
watch your heart as it refuses authority,
watch yourself as you follow the right,
watch yourself as you escape to freedom.

he can't be a man

it's my first day back to school after an eight day thanksgiving weekend. this is how i've felt all day. i'm going through a major cat power phase. and another rolling stones phase. and did i mention that i've had 23 cups of coffee in the past week? i've been counting. 14 of them were starbucks. they had a buy one get one sale a week ago (i think). so here's a mix of my recent music obsessions.

a broadened definition of art part #1: graffiti

after the world was introduced to artists like banksy, swoon, keith haring, twister, and margaret kilgallen, graffiti was somewhat seen as an actual art rather than just pointless vandalism. banksy mixed his images with political messages. keith haring pieces were considered pop art. graffiti proved it could have reason and beauty. so here are some of very favorites. *jump*

sepia

yesterday was a beautiful day. the weather was sixty degrees in the end of november. the sun was shining, the wind was blowing. and i figured out my camera has a really weird and cool like negative sepia setting. *jump*

happy sunday

well, i've nearly survived the weekend. just another twelve hours left. for me these kind of cold late fall days call for cat power. so here's the nostalgic video to '97s nude as the news.

and here's a live video of good clean fun and fate of the human carbine.

how to explain pictures to a dead hare

the year is 1965, and a random man by the name of joseph beuys decides he'd like to broaden the definition of art just a bit. he'd been attempting to do so all throughout the fifties and decided to leap right into the performance art world in the sixties. it's his very first exhibition but you have no idea what a mark it will make within the art world. the exhibition, entitled how to explain pictures to a dead hare, ends up being a key piece within performance art. he enters with his head covered in honey and gold leaf with a dead hare within his hands. he speaks to the creature for three hours with the door locked, not allowing you to enter the room. he lets you in while he sits on a stool staring back at you. judging by the wonderful color of the picture above, this is obviously a reenactment. here are some beautiful pictures from the original event.

strange silhouettes

this is some of the photography i took tonight at my mom's friend's traditional black friday coffee. they're mostly silhouettes and it's not great quality, but i love 'em. *jump*

red dresses

i remember it was about a year ago that i actually became a small fan of genesis. i watched in awe as peter gabriel waltzed across the stage wearing a fox head and a red dress. apparently they weren't noticed before any of his insane antics, but at the same time they weren't really remembered until phil collins stepped in. i could never understand why anybody liked genesis so much after it lost everything that made it unique. sure, it was good music, but peter gabriel made everything more interesting. i mean who else had the audacity to pretend to be a lawnmower?

preparing for flight

i think i might be getting the hang of what this blog thing is. so now that i have a never ending list of random things i can spit facts out about i may as well actually start posting. but something tastes salty. it's as if nothing is worthy for anyone to read. maybe once i get a page or two filled i'll feel different.

marina abramovic

though many people think of performance art as pointless violence and nudity created purely for shock value, i've come to disagree after quite a bit of research. but right now, here's marina abramovic, a woman who's really the most influential performance artist there is today. her most recent performance would have been the artist is present, and exhibition where visitor could sit directly across from her, silently, and communicate completely  by seeing into each others souls. and surprisingly, staring at the artist was a somewhat both traumatic and spiritual experience, causing most people who stared at her for long to cry. but long before that, abramovic performed the rhythm 5, where she cut her hair and nails before walking around and finally lying down within the star. she lost a battle for oxygen to the flames and quickly lost consciousness, but it still has to be one of the most interesting performances within the art.
and here's a photo of abramovic performing a collaboration with the artist ulay. the two of them spent an entire 16 hours back to back, tied by their hair, without moving.

lilium urbanus

i don't have the slightest clue why it's taken me so long to post anything. so to start out on a fine note, here's one of the most beautiful animation's i've ever seen.

sometimes modern views are dizzying. . .

it's about my sixth time attempting to make a blog within the past few years. and i decided i might as well decide to ditch the whole concept thing and just make it about everything running through my nearly schizophrenic mind. so this blog will be about obscure photography, philosophy, politics, literature, religion, psychology, and about anything else that's going through my mind. and because modern views on life are already extremely dizzying, i'm planning to give you vertigo.
